Welcome! I'm Joy Zhou, a professional music educator, researcher, and the founder of Be You Music Education. My pedagogical approach is built on a world-class foundation, holding 2 bachelors and 2 masters degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education across China, the United States, and Canada, alongside active research at the University of Ottawa's Music and Health Research Institute studying how music impacts the brain and wellness. This scientific, data-driven perspective directly informs my teaching, allowing me to provide high-level education and transformative global opportunities for my students.

My journey includes leading music programs at an international school in Beijing where I directed a student choir performance at Vienna's Goldener Saal and serving as a certified Montessori teacher in downtown Toronto, where my choir performed for the American Educational Research Association. In 2018, I provided the vocals for a series of Hang Seng Bank theme songs broadcast throughout Hong Kong. Most recently, my Richmond Hill voice students delivered a stunning Youth Trio and Instruments Fusion performance for the 2026 Toronto Lunar New Year celebrations.

I believe true musicianship starts from within, and my goal is to nurture every child into a confident young musician by fostering a natural, joyful connection to ensemble singing. By uniquely integrating movement into the choral experience using Dalcroze Eurhythmics and Montessori principles, I transform traditional singing into a dynamic, somatic experience where children literally feel and internalize rhythm and expression before they sing.

Beyond the classroom, I love building community by coordinating major traditions, annual concerts, and milestone ceremonies at our Richmond Hill studio and Langstaff Community Centre.
